The Gilroy

Remember Ocean’s Thirteen? Remember THE GILROY used by Linus to seduce Abigail in his role as Lenny Pepperidge? Many people are asking what is THE GILROY? Does it exist? Is it real? How can I get my hands on the Gilroy Pheromone Patch? Do pheromones really work that well?

If you haven’t seen the movie, here’s how the scene goes. Matt Damon’s character applies a pheromone patch called THE GILROY to his neck. Matt opens the door to an older hot woman played by Ellen Barkin. You can see the pheromone scent finds its way to her nose. She takes a whiff. She immediately begins to act very confused. She tries to fight her powerful attraction to Matt and finds her lips close to various parts of his body before she is able to pull away. Later they have a drink and she is not able to resist him anymore and turns into a sex cougar. She’s all over Matt.

The special scent that Linus puts on his neck to seduce Abigail is noted in a title card as “The Gilroy.” (Un)Fortunately, there is no such thing as The Gilroy in real life. This is an in-joke on Tony Gilroy who wrote the screenplays for The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), all starring Matt Damon, and also wrote and directed Michael Clayton (2007), which stars George Clooney and is produced by Steven Soderbergh.
