RIP: Cliff Robertson, veteran actor and Academy Award winner, passed away yesterday of natural causes, one day after turning 88.

Robertson’s storied career spanned many memorable roles, including his portrayal of JFK in the 1963 biopic PT 109, an historic role (the first to portray a sitting president) for which he was handpicked by Kennedy himself.

Other notable roles include his turn mentally disabled man in Charly — a role which won him an Oscar for Best Actor — and, most recently, Uncle Ben in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man film series.
